Rise early, slip the suitcase onto the bike and roll east on the I-40 frontage road. Stop at the Travel Center of America, fill up the tank, go inside to their sit-down service Buckhorn restaurant. Ordered the Twisted Texas Omelette, just $9 with tax and tip and well worth it! Breakfast is "The Most Important Meal of the Day" -- and a lot better than riding on an empty stomach.
Started late, dawn is late due to being on Central Time. At 8 am dawn has just cracked and it is still fairly cold -- a good thing I brought my sweater and scarf I wear when it's in the '50's at home. Noticed what looks to be old 66 following the freeway, so I start taking is so I can ride at 45-50 to keep wind chill down. Ending at 9:45 in the town of Shamrock with it's rather famous:
Conoco Tower
gas station and Cafe. It now serves as a museum/gift shop/office for the
Shamrock board of trade or some such. (You can click on the picture for
the BIG version.) If anyone steals this picture, that's my bike pulled up
to the pumps.
