Another two hours down the road, 8 miles shy of Tumcari, out in the middle of nowhere, New Mexico, one of the few remaining Stuckey's Pecan Shoppes.  Back in the '50's we stopped at these shoppes alot -- they were all up and down the Mother Road.  No way I could ride past and not get some Pecan Candy to take back to Wendy.

It doesn't look the same as it did in the '50's.  The tall sign is right, I remember seeing them from miles off.  But the store is modern -- blah!  Clines' Corners was much better.  As I'm coming in I realize that Hey, order in the store or on-line it'll still ship from the same place!  So I bought Wendy something else.

As it is getting later and I'm feeling the pain of riding -- not in the butt, but in the legs.  Stopping roughly hourly just to get off the bike and stretch the legs a bit.

Just hop off the freeway at whatever exit.  Most have a variation of your typical tourist trap -- all selling the same stuff.  Other times I stop at the freeway rest areas:

New Mexico does them right.  Huge, green, lotsa trees and shade, separate picnic spots with individual parking spaces.  Compare with Texas!
